When Innovation is
needed? At TIMES of:
a- Infrastructure buildup?
b- Maturity and Growth?
c- Crisis and Turbulence?
There is a wide miss-perception about the time that Innovation must be
introduced in organizations. Some of the responses that we hear when we
suggest an innovation program are:
A- We are still in the buildup stage and we are busy in infrastructure
activities. It is not the right time for Innovation. Our priorities are
in buildup matters.
B- We are doing well, why do we need Innovation?
C- We need first to survive this turbulent time, we will think about
Innovation later.
From an innovation experience perspective we see that all of the above
responses lack the true understanding of what and when Institutional
Innovation can benefit organizations.
@ At buildup stage organizations need to become distinguished from the
rest of the market. Early innovation capabilities and culture will stay
with the organization forever. Startups need differentiation.
Buildup Time:
Innovation brings the best
early differentiation.
@ At time of maturity and growth, organizations are harvesting the
results of hard work. There is a need to strengthen the grip on the
current position. Happy moments don’t last forever. An eye on the future
should drive next steps innovatively and in a distinguished manner from
the rest of the market. Aggressive new comers and competition are hoping
to catch up with you and are thinking of how to get ahead of you.
Maturity Time: Innovation is the insurance
against the tough future.
@ At crisis time organizations must carefully search for a path to
survival. Thinking must focus on innovative ideas that are beyond the
thinking of everybody else. Innovative approaches will ensure turbulence
to pass with minimum causalities. Who want to be among the dead? History
says that after each recession cycle the market is re-shaped differently
and the customer consuming behavior and mentality changes. Knowing the
innovative exit ahead of others will bring even an opportunity for a new
business that never existed before this turbulence.
Turbulent Time:
Innovation is a window for new opportunities.
